As a child Sara was fascinated with three things, Egypt, animals and healing. While she did not become an archeologist in Egypt, she did end up working with animals and becoming a healer.
As a young woman, Sara studied western herbology and aromatherapy while working in a health food store and grooming dogs. On the side she had fun putting together and teaching a healthy vegetarian cooking class. After a few years she was delighted to find a full time job in an animal hospital in Southern California. During this time Sara moved to Santa Cruz and had two boys that were born at home, breastfed, cloth diapered, homeschooled and raised in a holistic environment. This along with four cats, one dog, and two ferrets! She has firsthand experience with attachment parenting, a philosophy that focuses on the connection between a parent and their child, as well as participating as a La Leche League Leader, supporting nursing mothers.
It has now been over 20 years that Sara has had the pleasure of working in the Veterinary industry as both a receptionist and a Veterinary nurse. During that time she also enjoyed volunteering at the Santa Cruz Animal Shelter fostering kittens and the The Monterey Bay Aquarium as a docent. In 2016 Sara took a hiatus from working at Felton Veterinary Hospital to attend Five Branches University and obtained her Doctorate in Traditional Chinese Medicine. She is now a licensed acupuncturist and clinical herbalist with the pleasure of treating humans as well as their animals.
To say she loves her job is an understatement and she continually works to further her knowledge of Eastern and Western medicine and herbology.
Sara has an office for human patients in Santa Cruz, Heartwood Acupuncture, as well as a practice for pets at Felton Veterinary Hospital in Felton.
